Due to COVID-19, I am currently only providing virtual therapy services.
What is your therapeutic approach?
Taking the first steps in starting therapy, or starting therapy with a new person, is a very daunting experience. Understanding what that can be like, I aim to create an environment where you feel comfortable to share and move at your own pace. I believe our upbringing, relationships, life experiences, and society as a whole heavily influence our unique identity. I combine this focus in the process of supporting you to explore and understand your thoughts and underlying emotions, to uncover patterns of unhelpful beliefs or actions, and how you relate to yourself and others.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist, my focus is not just on your own individual self, but how external people and factors influence you, as well. I work from a humanistic, depth-oriented, family systems approach that is psychoanalytic and eclectic, as each person is different and there is no method that is one size fits all. Depending on your needs, I am influenced by Narrative, Cognitive Behavioral, and Collaborative theories. For couples, I integrate the Gottman Method, along with Imago and Emotionally Focused Theory.
How do I work with you?
If you are interested in working together, feel free to fill out a contact form, call me at 347-688-2822, or email me at carmenkoag@gmail.com. I offer a complimentary 15 minute consultation to help determine if we’re a good fit for each other.
The consultation will allow us to get a feel of one another. You will be able to share what you would like to work on and ask me any questions you might have. I will let you know if I will be able to help you based on my experience, at the same time, you can decide if you would like to start working together.
Are you accepting new clients?
Yes, I’m currently accepting new clients.
Do you accept insurance?
I accept Optum and Aetna insurances. For self paying or out-of-network clients, a superbill can be provided at the end of each month for you to submit for possible reimbursement.
How long is a session?
All sessions are 45 minutes long. Longer sessions can be accommodated on a case by case basis. Sessions are once a week and duration of therapy depends on your own personal needs, goals, and situation, which we will discuss at the start and throughout the course of therapy, as needed.
